CAVEAT
Two reported incidents on our street serve as another warning and neighbours are asked to report in any other incidents. The Watch committee will, I am sure, be considering early warning system to keep neighbours on their guard.
Incident One:
"ChicoYesterday (Saturday April 10) we had friends over for the afternoon. At some point during this time two jackets were stolen from their car (a graphite coloured Mini Cooper) which was parked across our drive. One of the jackets contained a wallet and some keys. The incident has been reported to the police. I think it also worth mentioning that there is an increasing incidence of scavenging teams operating in the area. Either on foot or driving slowly down the street in white vans/open pick up trucks, their focus is on taking scrap metal from skips and front gardens/side entrances. Of course, anything else that is saleable is fair game. Both woman and men are involved and they have no hesitation in trespassing on peoples' properties. regards Keith"
"Keith
There were two guys walking down each side of the road yesterday
at around lunchtime; one had a workman’ highvis yellow jacket with
“scrap
metal ..” across the back. They were walking past each house looking in
the gardens; I assume there was a van following in the vicinity.
The 2 guys were late teens/early twenties, pretty rough and very
intimidating – ie scowling at you as they passed.
Not sure if this will help though.
Nigel"
Incident Two:
Also this Saturday, two men dressed in hi-viz jackets knocked on a neighbour's door and claimed that her sink plumbing was the cause of a severe leakage next door. Our neighbour who is a frail
elderly lady asked for ID. They produced a plastic card and insisted on urgent, speedy entry. Our neighbour who was anxious not to create a flood in her kitchen and next door let one of them in while the other kept her chatting at the door. The one who entered swiftly went upstairs and ransacked her bedroom - stealing her purse full of the weeks shopping/pension cash.
When they left she went upstairs and discovered the tragedy. A neighbour called the police, they came swiftly, tidied up the chaos and left.
I have no doubt that our Watch Committee will be very concerned. They will be reinforcing the early warning system to help neighbours avoid a repetition of this type of avoidable incident.
We are entering an era of economic hardship.
Lessons from the above Incidents must/will be learned.
All Neighbours must Watch out for each other especially those vulnerable.
Beware and Watch out for strange cold callers at unusual times and circumstances. DO NOT CHALLENGE THEM - either phone the Police or Watch Committee member immediately.
If you suspect then detect.
Note continuous Alarm bells - Door numbers and duration.
The Watch should Request neighbours to leave keys next door so some one can deal with incidents.
Residents must Ensure that there is a responsible call-out service to avoid any possible hazards and nuisance. If you can afford an alarm then you need the full deterrent.
Thieves need to take away their ill gotten gains.
We must all be aware of get-a-way forms of transport such as Vans, mopeds. Even pavement cyclists are an inherent danger and risk.
ALWAYS dead lock your front doors even while on the premises. Its just one turn of a key. A Yale key is inadequate.
Do NOT leave door keys or valuables within fishing rod access of your letter box.
Your door chain must be firmly in place when you answer the door to casual callers. Forced entry is common place and can be easily avoided.
Do not trust ID cards at face value. Check by always phoning the number on the ID card.
Inform this web site (email chicopac@gmail.com for details) to set the warning in action/place.
Finally, it is my hope that the above incidents will be mentioned in the Neighbourhood Watch Police Report that should be emailed to us in the near future. Because without proper records of the crime statistics relevant resources will not be allocated.

April this year will herald new legislation that will affect drive blockers (by as liitle as 50mm), unparallel parking (more than 250mm away from kerb), double parking, pavement/on-kerb parking et cetera. Those who are obstructed/affected call a number and the offending vehicle will be removed imediately (without notice), impounded (immediately)and if unclaimed - crushed.
The cars pictured below are just a few that have obstructed our access in the last two weeks - if you know the owners - please warn them that in future their carelessness could be expensive.

Tottenham Red Watch Water Fighters help out diverting a large out flow of a mains water burst down Park Road drain. Surely Not another Act of God.
Fire Brigade wanted to turn the mains off but couldn't find the Thames Person to give them permission. Hello! Is this an emergency? Why cannot the Brigade take the initiative?
Please sir your building is on fire, where is the building manager? I want permission to put the fire out - Crazy. Water can cause damage and chaos - switch it off.

Our lads are out helping saving life and limb elsewhere - in the spirit of true cooperation.
Meantime at the other end of our Avenue one tree was being pollarded.
When it rains it pours - to coin a phrase in an emergency

Campaign against Climate Change
Presents:
WHAT SHOULD THE GOVERNMENT BE DOING
ABOUT AVIATION, IN THE LIGHT OF THE CLIMATE CRISIS
?
Talk by Peter Lockley from Airport
Watch, followed by discussion.
Date: Tuesday 7th August 2007
Time:
6.30pm
Venue: One World Café, 18 Leigh Street Judd
Street London
Nearest Tube: Kings Cross (nearest)
or Russell Sq Tube
As the Heathrow Climate Camp is
about to take place what should we
actually be asking the Government to
do about aviation? After all
can we really expect appeals to
people's 'green conscience' (not to fly !) to work on any significant scale
without concerted action by government? And is 'not building more runway's
enough ? What about a tax on aircraft fuel? Do we make flying a lot more
expensive & how? Will that just mean only the rich go on foreign holidays?
Whats all that about bringing aviation into the European emissions trading
scheme and making it part of the targets in the Climate Bill? Should we be
developing alternative means of transport and if so what? Should we be reducing
flying as well as just limiting its growth and if so what kind of level can we
realistically afford within meaningful emissions targets? Are there any
technological fixes that have any role at all?
Following the discussion there will
also be CCC London Branch Meeting.

GREEN SPACE
EVENTS
Pounds for Parks, 3/10/07,
Austin Court ,
Birmingham
The
background
Cuts in revenue expenditure.
Staff and budget cuts. Loss of features and facilities. Heard all this
before?
For many
parks departments and cash-strapped local authorities, this is an all too
familiar mantra which has led to a decline in the condition of our parks and
green spaces over the last two decades. Increasingly, park professionals have to
think innovatively to access alternative funding streams.
Local area
agreements, Section 106 legislation, cross-cutting budgets and sponsorship are
all methods available to proactive parks departments to secure enough money to
manage and maintain parks and green spaces to the best possible
standard.
The
focus
Pounds for
Parks will look at the varied approaches and techniques required to source
funding for parks and green spaces.
The
objectives
o o To consider examples of alternative
funding models
o o To learn how to work with
communities and politicians to make a case for
parks
o o To look at how parks can be
prioritised within Local Area Agreements (LAAs)
o o To discover how Section 106
agreements can provide opportunities to secure funding
o o To explore opportunities provided by
sponsorship and business development
Who should
attend?
Pounds for
Parks will be of interest to park managers, heads of service, policy makers,
councillors, regeneration professionals, landscape architects and all other
public, private and voluntary sector professionals who are currently working
with, or have an interest in, parks and green
spaces.
Cost
Attendance is £170.00 for IPGS
and GreenSpace members and £220.00 for non-members (prices include vat). A
limited number of subsidised places, priced at £90.00, are available to
registered community groups and those in full-time education. Please phone 0118
